Jan loved to draw and to paint as he was a child and has returned to his passion for the arts as soon as his career in the medical sector did end at the beginning of the 2000s. After a five year training at the Gooise Academy where he got to try various techniques, both graphic and visual, he started oil painting ,which he thoroughly enjoyed but in 2007 he traded it for watercolors after following several masterclasses. Jan is driven by the pleasure he finds in creating atmosphere and lights found in the landscapes, cities and maritime subjects round him.

Using different tones and shadings, the painter commits to capture the beauty that inhabits the places he visits ,giving them a sensitivity that is doubled by a latent poetry, which he strives with the viewer. Since 2015 he is a committee member of IWS Holland (International Watercolor Society),a non profit organization devoting to promoting watercolor and has participated in many collective events and exhibitions that enabled him to share his work all round the world. Also solo exhibitions did take place, many awards he received for his works, as publications in magazines and books. In addition , he teaches his passion and skils to many enthousiast students by offering classes and workshops. By devoting himself daily and consistently to the perfection and transmission of his technique, the artist earned the prestigious title of “Master” in the international Watercolorists in 2017

As a child I already made drawings on a daily basis, 15 years ago I have picked up this passion again. After five years of academic schooling in diverse techniques and following masterclasses in watercolor painting, I had come to the decision that watercolor was the medium for me.

With my paintings I want to capture interesting subjects in a mystic and colorful atmosphere. The representation of lights and color tones play a central role in my work, inciting an emotional connection between the spectator and it. I have found that for me, the ultimate medium to achieve this is watercolor. I regularly have exhibitions, in the Netherlands and abroad. I also organize painting courses and workshops. I am also a board member of IWS Holland, which has the goal to promote watercolor painting in the Netherlands and to participate in the international contacts of the IWS world organisation (www.iwsholland.nl). Since april 2017 i am a master member of IWS World.
